BILANCIA

Vanessa Anne D. Asuncion
from 4IND-1

"Bilancia" is an Italian term which means balance. The design concept focuses on finding balance within the shape of the diamond. It is a challenging shape, but it is an opportunity to explore forms and negative space. I used a rattan wood frame and dowels to portray the harmony and balance of the lines inside the diamond frame. I also used two light bulbs to create symmetry. Overall, the light fixture showcases "bilancia," from the placement of dowels to the number of lightbulbs used. The minimalistic style of the light fixture with its geometric form that features indigenous materials complements well in every home. The beauty of this is how each angle creates a new design.

Tahanan

Alliah Jane S. Ayag from 4IND-1

“Home isn’t a place; it’s a feeling.” ― Cecelia Ahern

The concept of Tahanan is inspired by the title itself, in translation, “Home.” This work is inspired by that “feeling” when you’re at home—the feeling of comfort, contentment, and happiness. Each piece of this lighting fixture is the family members who live in this house. Each has a unique personality, and each has a different path to take. Although they are different from each other, they still perfectly fit together, and that “family” is what makes this house a home. The materials used in this design are Abaca, Bamboo, Mahogany, and Metal

Secundo

Trisha Ann M. Alcantara from 4IND-2

The concept of this lighting design is merely inspired by the form of an hourglass which is also why the design is called “Secundo”. Secundo is designed with simplicity to serve as an ideal match for minimalist interiors. Moreover, the design utilizes light-colored rattan material to achieve the minimalist look.

DALOY & GRANA

Ira Denese R. Arce from 4IND-2

The “Daloy” or flow (left) lighting design expresses the free flow of forms and lines. It represents constant blessings and grace or “patuloy na daloy ng biyaya”. A lighting fixture that is intriguing and created to captivate curiosity.

The “Grana” (right) lighting fixture’s simple form design is suitable for any setting. The shape of Grana is inspired by a grain of rice or “butil ng bigas". It speaks on the importance of every grain of rice, a reminder that for every grain of rice is equivalent to a life saved.

Daloy & Grana symbolizes continuous grace and abundance. These dropdown lighting fixtures are made from the local source material: Rattan.

MARA

Joon Hee Pauleen D. Bang
from 4IND-2

The design of Mara is inspired by my hometown 'Maragondon'. The design utilizes Maragondon's local produce of bamboo materials. It somehow shows a familiar form of a firefly, which reminded me of my childhood days in the province. Mara has a three-layer design concept that each has its own unique form from top to bottom.

PINAGRIKUS

Shaina Gayle E. Cereno from 4IND-2

Coming from the Citrus capital of the Philippines, Nueva Vizcaya, a town of Ilocano folks. I named this project as “Pinagrikus”, an Ilocano word for “ikot” Tagalog or cycle in English.

As cliche as it is, all Filipinos once in their life have said “ang buhay ay parang gulong, minsan nasa itaas, minsan nasa ibaba”. Some will say “kaya magsumikap ka”, while few will say “ang importante masaya ka”. And I chose to have the mindset of the latter. I chose to have a free life and do anything I want with the only rule: “ always do good without the prejudice of another.”

That is why, instead of a rotating like a wheel, my design is orbiting like a sun in the center of the Milky Way. The light bulb is the sun, while the rings is the milky way.

FELICITA

Alyssa Nicole P. Juni from 4IND-3

“Felicita” Dropdown Ceiling Lighting Fixture is a contemporary rattan pendant light that provides a natural, coastal look to everyone’s home. It is constructed of natural-colored handwoven rattan on a global shape. This lighting fixture can be used above a long table, counter space, or matched with a rattan headboard. Moreover, the term “Felicita” came from an Italian term which means “a ball of happiness”. Aside from being used as an accent lighting design, this fixture can also symbolize a ball of happiness that has the ability to brighten up a home and the whole household just by lighting it up. The main goal of this concept design is to create and evoke emotions of happiness and excitement with its overall form. Lastly, the theme behind this design is a modern boho handwoven rattan coastal pendant light that can accentuate any part of a home.

Aalto

“Aalto” means wave. Beach waves inspire this Lighting Design. The lines and the curves go in a different direction, just like the ocean waves, but they complement each other, which is stunning and relaxing in the eyes. It is a 4-layer drop-down light that is made from Bamboo and Metal.

LUCIA.png

Lucia

Agatha Marie R. Oliveros
from 4IND-3

LUCIA Dropdown Ceiling Lighting Fixture. It comes from the Latin word Lux meaning "LIGHT". Metaphorically, light signifies KNOWLEDGE, PURITY, and HAPPINESS and most importantly it gives HOPE. The name and the design of LUCIA are inspired by our situation right now since the pandemic happened. Many individuals have suffered and are still striving to cope up with what's happening in our world right now. Many people's lives have been wrecked, and many people have lost their loved ones. But we, Filipino people, should carry on with our lives despite the pandemic.

As for the materials, the design made use of Rattan, one of the abundant indigenous/local materials in our country. As a Filipino, using this material creates a sense of belongingness and an emotional connection between us and our spaces. Having a rattan light fixture makes your home more beautiful and stylish in every space and at the same time creates a warm ambiance and atmosphere, especially when you get home from school or work to unwind and rest.

Sinag

John Aaron G. Panganiban
from 4IND-1

Sinag is a sphere lighting fixture. Stars and the sun inspire Sinag. A star individually produces attractive light regardless of its size. The design is a diagonal sphere that has a spiral pattern. The inside also has a weaved rattan pattern and glass at the sides. Sinag offers multiple sizes as it looks more attractive as a set. The lighting structure produces a beautiful shadow pattern. The design is made of local material, rattan, and asemi-frosted glass at the side.

Syntrofiá

Celine Alyanna C. Diestro
from 4IND-2

"Syntrofia" is a term for companionship and this design is its perfect embodiment. Syntrofia functions well on its own but its beauty stands out more when multiple pieces of the fixture is placed. Its main form is made of Rattan while its Spiral Canopy is made of Steel. It exhibits a minimalist and elegant look perfect for adding some flare to living rooms or other spaces of the house.

CYD

Jamie Louise E. Magpantay
from 4IND-2

Furnished with elegance and flow, this lighting fixture represents a fusion of handmade aesthetics and high regard for craftsmanship. It is inspired from local nipa hut roof which is considered as a living symbol of the Filipino cultural identity. The shape itself mimics the nipa hut’s roof with added minimal exaggeration of movements on the material. It is light and airy as its primary material is bent bamboo which gives a sense of feeling at home and a tropical characterization.

SALAKOT

Randm Brylle M. Manalo from 4IND-3

This piece of work is inspired by Salakot which is a general term for a traditional headpiece used by most ethnic groups of the Philippines that represents Filipino identity. Integrated with warm lights and rattan pattern, project Salakot aims to provide comfort and cozy feeling that enables us to attain the sense of calmness.

BALANGGOT

Mira Arianna L. Mones from 4IND-3

This lighting fixture is inspired by Balanggot, a Filipino term that refers to a traditional hat used in the Philippines. It is a dried reed or slender palm tree whose leaves make a native headpiece usually by farmers to protect themselves from the sun. The art piece signifies and offers tribute to the Filipino farmers as Balanggot as its representation. It gives a robust Filipino representation through its design. The design of this artwork is constructed similarly to the structure of Balanggot, using bamboo as the primary material and a bit of aluminum for its string handle.

Moonlight

Elmerie Rosel R. Paragas from 4IND-3

The moon was made for the night so as this work was made for lighting life. The light is surrounded by the design which portrays shining during your dimness.

4.Best Rendered photo of your plate.png

Communico

Gabrielle M. Tabilog from 4IND-3

Communico means sharing as to communicate. The inspiration of this work has been the form of opening-up. The lighting design starts with a narrow opening and proceeds to open-up at the bottom of the form. This symbolizes the process of opening-up and building a sense of trust and communication of your thoughts and feelings to someone you trust.

As for the materials, the bamboo (along with aluminum for contrast and support) is one of the emerging trends of today. The future of bamboo in design plays a large role in creating sustainability in the local community. This drop light would be preferably placed on a corner, a reading book perhaps, as the light creates an opening narrow to focus on a leisure activity such as reading.

4. Denjiki.png

Denjiki

Edgar Antonio M. Tan from 4IND-3

Denjiki is a Japanese word translating to “Electromagnetism.” The concept was inspired by the properties of magnets. The shape also resembles the shape of an electromagnetic coil. I wanted the 3 components of the lamp to be held together by magnets to showcase these properties. By facing the magnets in the right direction, it can make the pieces not touch at any point making it seem like the pieces are hovering or floating together. The materials for the lamp are mainly composed of bamboo, metal for supports and magnets to hold the 3 components together.
