Biomorphic Surface Art
A collection of students' biomorphic surface art, volumetric paper models, and wire model constructions made for their materials class.
Biomorphic Surface Art:
One with the Waves
Brianna Maegan D. Dy from 1IND-1
This biomorphic surface art is the second project given in our materials class. It emphasizes the cleanliness and preciseness of our work in cutting the Sintra board.
As the project emphasized making these clean-cut slats made of Sintra board, I started searching for new ways to challenge myself as a design student in which I gravitated to wavy objects such as this goldfish and its tail. My work "One with the ocean" thus came to life.
Jhet Nicole L. Muncal from 1IND-2
This artwork is made out of sintra board with a thickness of 3mm. It has 56 slats to form a structure of a lips. Each slats are cut precisely to achieve its proper proportion and curves. Sandpaper was also used to make the surfaces smooth. Lastly, red glossy paint was applied to the artwork to express its simplicity and elegance.

Biomorphic Surface Art:
Pluto’s Paw
Charmaigne T. Cuizon from 1IND-1
Used a 3mm sintra board with 6mm spacing between each slat. Started my shapes with semicircles, gradually increasing in length but has only a specific range of height for each slat. I love dogs so I decided to take inspiration on the paw pad of our dog named Pluto.
Biomorphic Surface Art:
Bitten Apple
I’ve decided to design or construct a figure that everyone might be obviously familiar with. I’m sure most of you will be familiar with what I assemble, it is the logo of the “APPLE/MACBOOK” device. Pretty cool, isn’t it? I felt satisfied by designing this silhouette because I see it simply spectacular and viewed the clear matt assembled design.
Biomorphic Surface Art:
Reach
Andrea Jouie T. Obeles from 1IND-2
A child is reaching the Father’s hand for help and solace. God’s hand is always there for us, especially when we need guidance and protection. I used a Sintra board for the hands and an illustration board for its base. And, I used my hand as a reference for the depth. God’s hand is convex since He’s the dominant one, while the child’s hand is concave.
Biomorphic Surface Art:
Le Creux
Hernandez, Santina Leonora P. from 1IND-2
Design brief: A biomorphic surface art plate resembling a vase hollowed out in the middle. Hence the title, “Le Creux”. It is made out of a 3mm Sintra board with a 1/8 illustration board base. The slats are measured to achieve a smooth transition and optical illusion depending on the angle of view perceived.
