The Khubo Project is a study and leisure hub created to be of service to students near the UST campus. It aims to give new life to an abandoned facility and repurpose it to cater within its surroundings.

Quo-Haven Quarantine Facility

With the rapid increase of Covid-19 cases, hospitals and other quarantine facilities can no longer accommodate others who are infected by the virus. Some areas lack quarantine facilities that force them to stay at home but risk the lives of their family members or anyone they’re with under the same roof. Mental health is also at risk as some do not have a proper area inside their homes to isolate and it adds to the stress and anxiety that the victim experiences. As this project’s goal is to adaptively reuse and restore old or abandoned facilities, it is an opportunity to build more quarantine facilities/isolation areas to aid those infected by the virus. The chosen location is a former US Naval Base located in the USMC Upper MAU Camp. These Quonset huts were used as barracks for US Marines. The Philippine Senate agreed not to extend the lease which led to its closure in 1992. Since then, some of the Quonset huts have been transformed into offices and restaurants. The unfortunate ones met the wrecking ball and were subsequently replaced by new buildings. Several quonset huts are still left standing and it opens a door to adaptively reuse it as a quarantine facility. The result of the project led to the construction of Quo-Haven, a Quarantine Facility that caters to the victims of Covid-19. It is inclusive of food, free wifi, a service tablet, and a few amenities such as a gym and library. Each patient owns a room with a captivating view to ease their mind and be able to relax. A nurse will also be assigned per patient to track and check the victim’s health and condition.

In this first project of ours for EECD, we were tasked to bring life to a building that was once lifeless and we chose the Itech Business Center Building, located at 3 Matalino St. Diliman, Quezon City. The team has decided to turn this one-story building into a Café with hopes of expanding it to have a 2nd floor to accommodate more guests but stuck to keeping at a first floor with an Al Fresco Area. A suitable location for a commercialized area that is near Quezon City Hall. In between is the PLDT Data Center and The Sulo Riviera Hotel.
