Industrial Design

Emotional Design

Industrial Design - the main subject course of the Industrial Design Degree covers a wide array of topics; from color theories, design mapping, theory and concept application, product conceptualization, technical drawing, lessons on mass production, and the general design of everyday things.

In this particular year, students were tasked to design products that evoke  emotions to the user and the onlooker. Applying concepts studied from past subjects and courses such as color theories and abstract form studies.

Playful Dwarf

Camille Margaret Castellano from 3IND-2

The Playful Dwarf was created as a tape dispenser. The dwarf was portrayed to be laying down while playing with a ball where the blade was placed. On top of his head where he wears a hat, there is a storage for another tape to hold. In the process of making this outcome, one of us is able to let go of emotions and experience a heightened sense of self-awareness. All these while using your creative mind to transform a picture or a scene into a product design.

Colleen G. Chan from 3IND-3

This flashlight's head is oval-shaped and the colors are Pastel which gives happy vibes to this product. It helps to light up the dark and gives a happy emotion. This design has two LED lights in one, you just need to push forward the button at the top to open the light while you handling it. The overall design shows its concavity and convexity form that also supports the structure of the product.

Scorch Gun

Scorch Gun is an emotional stapler concept design course requirement in our course, Industrial Design 5. This concept was explored from convexity and concavity forms and negative sketching to final rendered concepts. I came up with this title because of how hot its color is.

Huili H. Chua from 3IND-1

Sonos

Gayle M. Contemprato from 3IND-1

SONOS is a Bluetooth Speaker shaped from a snowman form with earmuffs. The design is cool yet bubbly with its dark blue metallic exterior and product functionality, exuding a friendly charisma that users would be fond of.

Boom Shroom

Erica Cotoco from 3IND-1

The name is created by combining "Boom" which is derived from the onomatopoeia of beats in music and Mushroom which is the main structure of the speakers. BOOMSHROOM believes that music can grow anywhere and is devoted to delivering wonderland-like music to every individual.

Solace

Gia Andrea Dela Cruz from 3IND-3

“Solace” is a hand mixer with an emotional design theme that creates products that provide users with great experiences. It has a curve and free flow of comfort and user-friendly systems. Its design aim is to experiment with different forms of clay exploration, from product-making to trying out new processes.

Hiyo!

Veel Iremae Dela Cruz from 3IND-1

Most of us are tired of what is happening right now, that is why I think that we should have a product on our desk that will make us smile when we are having online classes or work, and that is a tape dispenser. HIYO! is a tape dispenser I designed for this project on emotional design. HIYO! came from a Cebuano word, “pahiyom” that means “ngiti” in Tagalog. My goal is to build a connection between my product design and the people who will be using it and also, I want my design to be a channel of happiness and positivity to them.

R1E Robot

Jansen Joy Diaz from 3IND-3

In designing, we put a lot of emotion to create something form it. From Convexity and Concavity, which we mold a clay, to bringing a life on it. This is R1E Robot or Reclining 1-eyed robot, a futuristic feel kitchen timer.

Vexus

Carlene Vianca Flores from 3IND-2

Vexus -- from the latin word “convexus” that means convex, which was the requirement in this design. It was inspired by the shell of a clam, taking hold of a C-shape with different convex and concave shapes occupying its surface. This gives the bluetooth speaker a unique and eye-catching design, along with its violet highlights embezzled on its black paint.

Alieno

Patricia Mae Gallares from 3IND-1

Emotions capture the essence of who we are as human beings. It is part of our nature to feel and gain profound experiences from our surroundings. Alieno is a leap into Emotional Design, re-incentivizing products to capture emotions. The idea of this project is to make feelings tangible and pique the interest of its consumers. It strikes into focus that good design isn’t just molded by its effective tools but also its affective tools which aim to build fervent connections and responses from its audience.

On-the-go Flashlight

Donna Louise Galvez from 3IND-3

Expressing concavity and convexity to achieve its uniqueness in form. As well as, paying attention to the basic functions needed for a flashlight and possible application of ergonomics to assure that it is user-friendly. Furthermore, to provide a simple yet durable product to avoid any mixed signals or misunderstanding on how it works.

Courille

Maria Patrina Gudito from 3IND-3

The product name “Courille” is a unique combination of the words curve and toast, both derived from the french words “courbe” and “grille” respectively. A very unusual form for a bread toaster, Courille embodies an inorganic shape with multiple curved edges. It is rooted from the core of emotions of the designer that is now reflected and perceived in the product. Its rounded shape creates a friendly approach to the customer and will surely generate a fun energy into the kitchen.

Jingle Tapes

Angelica Monique Limbo from 3IND-3

“JINGLE TAPES” tape dispenser is a Christmas-themed Emotional Design Product entitled “Wrap it Up”. It is composed of ornamental Christmas balls stuck together that forms a singular unique design expressed by the Emotions of the designer. The look is ideal for the Christmas season as it conveys fun and happy energy.

Kai Speaker

Hanna Clare Magcale from 3IND-3

In today’s generation, people used to bring their speakers anywhere they go. As a designer and a music lover, I want to produce a speaker that is minimalist but at the same time has a good quality. Also, the emotional design was embodied here as being calm as to the minimalist shape of the speaker. Kai Speaker is made up of wood material which can be a unique type because as most speakers are made from metal or plastic material. In addition, the dimension of the speaker is quite small and perfect to bring anywhere, the comfortability of the users is also incorporated.

Parovela

Neil Francis Mercado from 3IND-1

The name Parovela is just the combination of the Latin word for an egg, "ovum" and parabola. The shape of the hand mixer reminds me of an egg, a staple ingredient in our kitchens. The way the product looks may remind you of an earbud, this may add to its appeal as it taps to the consumer's curiosity and familiarity.

TAPE DISPENSER 3D RENDER.png

The Cresent Boat

Dominic Narcelles from 3IND-3

When it comes to mixing feelings and design, it leads to a whole new level of play. That’s why this project, is a test of how we perceive things with what we feel, see, touch, and imagine. This tape dispenser or I would label it “The Cresent Boat”, is something that I never thought I would expect to do nor create, but in all that. In simplicity, comes the magic of its form. And sometimes, we ponder to ask ourselves, “How did we come up with this?”, well… I guess it’s a mystery how things just come naturally.

D-One

Rosvie P. Perez from 3IND-2

The impact of Covid-19 in our lives has led to abundant realizations, making us more aware of our surroundings, especially our health. Therefore, D-ONE aims to combat Covid-19 by making sure that our temperature is in a normal state. So, we can move forward to start our D-1 of normal life and we can utter that we are D-ONE (done) on this pandemic.

Alyssa Kristina Saynes from 3IND-2

Omaru

Patricia Beatrice Sebastian from 3IND-1

This plate is one of our coursework in Industrial Design 5, for this project I chose the product bread toaster for my emotional design plate because I wanted to come up with a unique design that would not only evoke emotions but it would also be feasible in reality. When you look at the whale-shaped bread toaster and coffee warmer it makes you feel like you want to try and use the product.

Hazel Bluetooth

Patricia Mae Singtan from 3IND-2

Bluetooth speaker name is Hazel, another name for a copper because of its color. This emotional design was formed using convexity and concavity concept.

Bean Pod

Angelo Luigi Tan from 3IND-1

Bean Pod is my emotional design output for Industrial Design as it was mainly inspired by the fluidity of our emotions as individuals and the grace of nature’s curves and diverse colors. This speaker system has a modern look and a modern adaptation with its features and capabilities. The external appearance embraces the curves and angles of life and the music unleashes the soul. A design that took several steps and processes until completion, an output of discovery and inspiration.
